The story behind Cedar Vision Works

Lewis Tetlow opened Cedar Vision Works in 2014 after six years in a hospital eye clinic. The clinic was good work, important work, but appointments were twelve minutes long and the waiting room was always full. He wanted to find out what happened when you gave an eye test the time it actually needed. The first year was quiet. He booked one patient an hour, kept the lights low in the waiting area, and made a pot of tea most afternoons. Word got around slowly, which suited him fine.

The practice grew through referrals rather than advertising. A patient would mention us to a colleague whose prescription had been wrong for two years; that colleague would come in, and we would find the astigmatism that had been missed. We added OCT retinal imaging in 2017, before it became standard in independent practices, because Lewis had seen too many cases in the clinic where early macular changes had gone undetected. The scanner sits in the testing room and is used on every adult patient, not offered as a premium extra.
